How sick...

There are two things in this world I can not stand, people hurting children and people hurting animals. These are two creatures that can't help themselves...animals more than children. At least a child knows to go to the police and report the abuse...it doesn't always happen since they can be threatened, still there is always hope to get a child help.

Animals on the other hand, they have no voice. They can't run to the police or a trusted adult. They, in my mind, suffer more. Take my dog for example. He was a puppy mill dog, when I got him, he hated men. He had separation issues and food issues. He also didn't care for children. Almost three years after helping and loving him, he runs to men or children to play! He no longer licks at things in a separation anxiety. And, while he's a grub, he has no food issues. Watching him evolve from a scared anxious min pin to the lovable dog he's become is like watching your child grow.

There's a woman in Washington State who felt the need to starve the horses she had on her farm. Two are dead, two probably won't make it and all were starved with lice and rot on them. This is sick, just like the Michael Vick dogs.

Those dogs were to be destroyed, until some determined people set out to help these animals. Most of them have learned to love and be loyal and are up for adoption. I give kudos to these people, what they did to save lives is indescribable. They are angels in the eyes of these dogs.

We need to realize that most children do have a voice, but animals don't. Treat an animal the way you would want to be treated. If you're hungry, there's a 90% chance the animal is hungry. If you're cold, there's a chance the animal is too.

Would you want to be starved? Live in a cold barn? Or, how about my lovely neighbors, last year, it was below freezing, yet they let their dogs outside. I could hear them barking all night. They were cold while these people were warm in their beds.
I guess I'm a little nutty, but I'm so passionate about helping animals. One day I want to open my own shelter to help these defenseless animals. Until then, I will continue to stand on my soapbox and adopt them from a shelter.

I can totally see you opening a shelter you definitely have the passion for it and that alone is very comendable.
